Lansing, Mich. – The American Cancer Society is pleased to accept a generous donation of $28,186 from the Lansing-based international moving company, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®. The company, which is the nation’s largest and only franchised moving company, has supported the American Cancer Society as its national charity of choice since 2000. This donation brings the company’s total contributions to the American Cancer Society to $277,423 through 2009.
“Our work depends on the generosity of individuals and organizations such as TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®,” said Kelly Powell, director of the American Cancer Society Capital Area Service Center in East Lansing. “Every donation helps us to deliver free patient programs and services, education and early detection messages, as well as conduct research to find a cure for this disease. I am overwhelmed by their support year after year, which allows us to help people in our communities to celebrate more birthdays.”
TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® donates a portion of every move completed by the franchise system to the American Cancer Society.
“Giving back to the community has been a part of the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® mission since its first year in operation,” said Brig Sorber, president and CEO of the moving company, which started in the early 1980s as a way for Sorber and his brother, Jon, to earn extra money while in high school. Their mother, Mary Ellen Sheets, took over the business when the young men left for college. She donated the first $1,000 profit by distributing it between 10 different charities.
“Supporting the local communities where we work is how we do business,” Sorber added. “As the “Movers Who Care®”, we are proud of our history of giving. The American Cancer Society does amazing work and we are thrilled to continue to support its programs and research.”
Sorber will present a check to Powell at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Apr. 28, at the corporate headquarters, 3400 Belle Chase Way, in Lansing.
