Pay attention to these 5 overlooked moving essentials to stay on track during moving day

Whether you’re getting ready for a local move down the street or a long-distance move across the country, it’s best to ensure you’re prepared ahead of time so there are no surprises on the day of your move.

There are many things that need to be done before a move -- things like such changing your address, setting up internet and cable service, turning on utilities, packing, and much more. With so many things to do, the smaller tasks can easily be forgotten!

That is why we came up with a list of what we like to refer to as “overlooked moving essentials”. These are the things that might not be top of mind on moving day, but will go a long way in helping to reduce the stress and anxiety that come with moving.

Create a moving checklist

Planning and staying organized is key to a successful move, which is why it’s so valuable to create a moving checklist. This makes it easy to plan out what needs to be done by a certain time frame and finalize details for the day of the move. The checklist is also a great visual representation to see what you still need to finish before moving day and on the day of the move.

Have cleaning supplies on hand

Before you unpack items in your new place, there is a very good chance you’re going to want to wipe down counters, cabinets and doors, and clean the place to your liking. That is why it’s a good idea to set aside a small box with cleaning supplies. Having this box with you on the day of the move will allow you to start cleaning once you get to your new place, which means you can unpack sooner rather than later!

Keep track of your charges and batteries

Many of us rely heavily on technology, and the last thing we want on moving day is a dead phone and not knowing where the charger is. So, before moving day comes along, make sure to collect all the chargers for your devices like your phone, laptop, and tablet and check to see that the chargers work. From there, it’s not a bad idea to label what item goes to the charger and then put it in a bag so you can have it near you on moving day just in case you need to recharge your devices.

Pack plastic bags

You may have these lying around in your car or your home, so before you throw them out, keep a few aside, as they will come in handy on the day of your move. Plastic bags are great if you use them as trash bags on moving day, or if you have a few extra items that didn’t get packed away, you can easily store them until you get inside and unpack them.

Make sure you bring a tool kit

Whether you’re moving in or out, there is a good chance you will need to disassemble items and then reassemble them. This is where a tool kit comes into play! It’s a good idea to have a tool kit handy so you can fix anything right then and there.
